Hi Reader... Last Friday, I flew up to San Francisco for the day. I went up for a celebration of life...for my childhood friend, Arnie's mom. I've known him since I was 7 years old...over 54 years, crazy, right?! Our parents were good friends and we grew up together. We were buddies all through middle school, high school...and into our 20s. Then we grew up and grew apart. We moved to different cities. We lived in different states. We still followed each other on social media...but we rarely saw each other in person. Only on a few occasions. My dad's memorial service and my sister's surprise 65th birthday earlier this year. But here's the thing... Every time we would see each other, we would pick up right where we left off. It was as if, no time had passed at all. That's why I knew I wanted to be there for him, after his mom passed. And I'm so glad I went. I saw people I grew up with. And all the great childhood memories came flooding back in. At the end, as I was leaving to go back to the airport… I pulled Arnie aside to say goodbye and told him how important our friendship was to me. And how I really wanted us to be close again...from here on out. We both got tears in our eyes and hugged because we both knew how important our friendship was to both of us. Here's why I'm telling you this… Some old friendships are worth holding onto or rekindling. The ones where you can go years without seeing each other...and still pick up right where you left off. We don't always tend to those friendships the way we should. Because life gets busy and time slips by. We tell ourselves we'll reconnect...someday. But as we all know, someday isn't always promised. Is there someone in your life who you lost touch with that you just thought of? An good friend you always wondered about? Don't wait for a special occasion to reconnect. Reach out now. Tell them what they mean to you. Trust me, you'll be so glad you did…and I'll bet they'll be happy to hear from you. And always remember...life is better when you share it with friends. With love, Suzanne P.S. One more thing...are you in The Friendship Connection yet? It's our free private Facebook group, where women in midlife make new friends. I'd love to see you in there! :) Join here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/friendsconnection |
Hi, I’m Suzanne...I help women make new connections, build genuine friendships and thrive in midlife together. Because life is better with friends by your side.
Hi Reader... I don't know about you...but nobody warned me about this part of midlife… An injury. A surgery you didn't plan on. A couple of weeks ago, I texted my cousin. I asked her if she'd ever had a knee replacement. Because I found out I might need one. And I wanted to hear how it went…what to expect…anything I should know. As it turns out, she never had one. But here's what she texted me back… "When you have your surgery I'll come stay with you and help you, until you can manage on your...
Hi Reader... Yesterday, I was on the phone with a close friend. She was telling me about her daughter…who's in her 20s and having a really hard time making new friends. My friend asked me… "How do you do it? You make new friends everywhere you go." And honestly…I had to stop and think about it for a second. Because it's not something I plan. But here's what I told her… I talk to everyone and anyone. Wherever I am. Whether it’s at the grocery store. Waiting to board a plane. Standing in line...
Hi Reader... A couple of weeks ago, I was wrapping up a fun summer vacation in NY. A girls' beach trip out to Montauk...then a few days in New York City. I was really looking forward to the last few days of the trip...catching up with girlfriends, good food and great conversations. At least…that was my plan. But the next morning...I woke up sicker than sick. Coughing. Chills. A fever. Normally I'd just shrug it off as the flu. But not this time. There was a legionnaire's outbreak spreading...
